The core of the NSX is its twin-turbo V6 engine, which combines its efforts with three electric motors. The units combine to produce blistering acceleration, but the system also allows for quiet driving in electric-only mode. Compared to its direct rivals, the NSX is more user-friendly in everyday driving.
As for the Acura NSX Type S version announced for 2022, it will benefit from bonuses that will increase power from 573 to 600 horsepower. Maximum torque is set at 492 lb-ft, a gain of 16 lb-ft over the regular model. A total of 350 units of the 2022 NSX Type S will be produced, hence its instant title of collector's car. In Canada, only 15 units will be produced.
It also features Type S logos, a red engine cover and unique five-spoke wheels that slightly widen the car's tracks. The wheels are fitted with Pirelli P-Zero tires developed specifically for it. In addition, the adaptive suspension system is readjusted. A carbon fibre roof comes standard and lowers the centre of gravity for better handling.
To stay firmly planted on the ground, the NSX Type S benefits, like all other NSXs, from all-wheel drive. This is achieved through the model's unique mechanical configuration. Specifically, the nine-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and one of the electric motors work together to propel the rear wheels. The other two electric motors work independently to drive the front wheels, giving the NSX unique all-wheel drive.
In Silent and Sport modes, the steering is direct and precise, yet light to the touch, making the NSX easy to handle in everyday driving. For a more direct and incisive response from the steering and all of the car's components, simply engage the Sport Plus and Race modes. In fact, the electric power steering system gives the car more weight. Regardless of the setting, the steering is crisp and the NSX reacts intelligently to the driver's every input.
What's incredible about the 2022 Acura NSX Type S is its performance level. Already, the 573-horsepower variant glues you to the seat violently when you step on the gas.
However, what's certainly most impressive is that the NSX is comfortable and user-friendly enough for everyone to use on a daily basis. The Type S features leather and suede seats, an Alcantara headliner and a steering wheel spoiled with carbon fibre accents.
