The International Motor Sports Association, better known as IMSA, is an American motor racing organization based in Daytona Beach, Florida. Founded in 1969 by a former employee of the Sport Car Club of America, John Bishop and his wife, IMSA organizes numerous events and championships in the United States, the most popular of which is United SportsCar Auto Racing.
In 2019, vehicle manufacturer Acura distinguished itself by winning numerous championships with Team Penske and Meyer Shank Racing, marking its domination in the areas of performance and power on the track.
Acura continues to innovate, demonstrate ingenuity and excel not only on the roads of Quebec, Canada and the United States with its flashy models, starting with its luxury sedans ILX, TLX, RLX, RDX and MDX SUVs, and more recently its super car, the NSX, but also on North American race tracks. Acura Laval, the Acura dealer by excellence on the North Shore of Montreal near Saint-Eustache and Saint-Jérôme, discusses the achievements of the Acura team in 2019.
The IMSA Motor Race
With an evocative style, high-value performance and innovative engineering, the Japanese manufacturer has been developing racing cars that distinguish themselves and win North American championships for years on end. Accompanied by a team of experienced drivers, the NSX GT3 Evo is equipped with a 3.5-litre twin-turbocompressed V6 racing engine with 550 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque reaching a top speed of over 307 km/h, allowing the Acura team to dominate the tracks and overtake the competition at the finish line.
But that's not all! The NSX GT3 Evo is manufactured on the same platform as the Acura NSX super car and is sold at Acura Laval, the official dealer for Acura vehicles in Canada and Quebec.
At the 2019 Los Angeles Motor Show, Acura not only congratulated its NSX GT3 Evo team for its honors in the SRO GT and Edge Motorsports championships in its last season, but also wanted to point out that IMSA's success was not limited to this race car alone, since its ARX-05 had also won the prototype division in 2019.
Indeed, since 2018, the Acura ARX-05 has ensured the Japanese manufacturer's return to the competitive world with its long-time partner Team Penske; this return has quickly been marked by success. The Acura ARX-05 is a racing car that has distinguished itself in the past in SCCA, IMSA GT and American Le Mans races, where it took victories in the Daytona and Sebring categories. In 2017, the Japanese automaker decided to raise the performance level of its car a notch or two by entering the IMSA SportsCar championship with its latest Dpi prototype, the ARX-05. This model, which was designed for the 2018 and 2019 races, is now sitting at the top rank of the WeatherTech SportsCar championship. This car is equipped with a 3.5-litre, twin-turbo AR35TT V6 engine that proven its worth, as this standard V6 engine already powers the Acura MDX, TLX and RLX. However, unlike these models, the ARX-05 can produce up to 600 horsepower on track. In 2019, the Acura ARX-05 and its team of riders distinguished themselves by winning the Drivers and Manufacturers of the Year awards; previously, the same car had won the 12 Hours of Sebring, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, an LMP2 World Endurance Championship in 2012; the American Le Mans Series LMP2 title in 2012 and 2013; and an overall victory in the 24 Hours of the Rolex, the 12 Hours of Sebring and the Petit Le Mans in 2016.
After all, Acura excels on racetracks and gathers up prizes year after year thanks to its genius, precision and exceptional know-how.
